Cohort Learning

Each cohort member receives the equivalent of $10,000 through travel expenses, lodgings, meals, supplies, and other costs of the program. IAPS practices this level of investment in each cohort member as a reflection of our dedication to fostering the development of the clergy and Beloved Community of Metro Detroit and Metro Atlanta.

Cohort members selected will address the three dimensions of parish and/or community leadership (personal, congregational/community, cultural/civic) with a special focus on building the Beloved Community in each dimension of their influence. At the end of the ten-month program, each participant will be able to present their work on an adaptive challenge they observed in one of the three dimensions noted above.

IAPS thrives on the richness of varied experiences and perspectives contributed by each cohort member. In the spirit of adaptive leadership, which emphasizes the importance of listening to all voices, especially those usually excluded, our cohort is intentionally chosen for diversity. We are committed to fostering an inclusive space, including the LGBTQ+ community. This intentional diversity promises to enhance our collective learning and challenge us to grow as leaders beyond conventional boundaries.

About our Cohorts

The cohort work prompted disruptive thinking, challenging questions and uncomfortable conversations, which made me realize the adaptive leadership challenges I am facing are not new, they are not easy to address, and cannot be ignored. This cohort challenged me to think more critically and strategically, and not forget that I, too, have some growing to do and need to be nurtured as I grow. For me, the cohort was a safe, nurturing place and I’m grateful for that.

The IAPS Cohort impacted me profoundly. The focus on adaptive leadership has equipped me with the tools to approach pastoral challenges with both intellectual rigor and compassionate sensitivity. The adaptive leadership principles enabled me to cultivate a ministry environment that is more inclusive, supportive, and equipped to meet the evolving spiritual and emotional needs of my parish community
